Tulcán, Ecuador - Equateur! J'y suis!!

Finally in Ecuador!!  Our adventure begins after a very long and uncomfortable journey, we made it!

We crossed the border VERY early this morning - 6 am and immediately landed a ride to the next nearby town of Tulcán.  Not too much to see here besides the amazing landscape . . . Incredible!

So far, what we’ve seen of it, reminds us a lot of the landscape in Southern France.  It’s very green and breathtaking.  The folks here are also very kind so far, and actually a bit reserved.

Quite a change from their Colombian and Venezuelan neighbors.  New experience, new people, new fun times to come!!

After getting out of Tulcán, which by the way, was very quick because we got a lift just as fast . . . Hitchhiking is SOOOO easy here!  Great!

Next quick stop was in El Juncal.

Tulcán, Ecuador - Greetings from Ecuador!! Like Arnaud's hat!!?
Again unfortunately not too much to see here besides "los negros," as they say here.  Those weren’t my words!!

But strangely enough, as we were heading towards this town, our ride kept on telling me, "¡ya vamos llegar donde los negros!"

It was sort of weird for me because it felt almost as if we were going to a zoo, the way they put it . . . in any case, different experience.

I gotta admit to my ignorance; ’til now I hadn’t really thought that there were afro-ecuadorians.  I always thought that the population was mainly mestizo or indigenous . . . my mistake.

But no, to our pleasant surprise, the population here is quite diverse as well.

And actually, Ecuadorians are quite proud to say that the majority of the players of the country’s national soccer team, come from this here small town.

Tulcán, Ecuador - Crossing over to Ecuador!
Learned something new!  Better!  Now a little less ignorant!!  :)
