The drive back to Fazanovo was quite interesting! We actually ended up driving through all the backroads, as my brother wanted to pass by and see the village where his girlfriend grew up in, so we explored all of the little villages in between. The goal was driving throu the village Marinka, but we discovered a couple that were just amazing.
From Burgas going south, there are three big lakes, which I believe are man made to collect fresh water for farming. The great thing about these lakes is they attract one of my favorite birds in Bulgaria, the stork. These villages had stork nests on every single light pole, with at least 3 little baby storks! It was absolutely unbelivable as I havent seen a stork in real life since I was 7 years old.
Then, as we were driving from village to village, we ended up in a village called Dimchevo, which is funny because that was my mothers family name! The interesting thing is though, that we actually discovered that it must be renamed right away to Shturkelovo, as I have never in my life fathomed so many storks in one place!!!! It was absolutely incredible! Everywhere you look, I even got tired of jumping out of the car, and it almost became normal to me hahahah!
Anyway, we kept driving on, and ended up in yet another little village where they have annual sculpture shows and competitions.
There was one thing that sticks out in my head during this drive in particular, aside from the storks of course, and that was the massive fires that we saw. There was full hills, crops and all, houses and vineyards burned to a crips. We even saw an active fire burning down a farm! It was a painful sight, you are looking around at the green rolling hills, and each time you turn you all the sudden see a gigantic black mass...everywhere....through the road, on both sides of the street. It really was very sad.
On one side of Bulgaria there was so much rain that people drownd from landslides and flooding, while the other side is burning to a crisp. Crops were destroyed, forests were burned, and lives were lost. It was really very sad.
From there we continued, and stopped in Lozenets to pick up some groceries and have a quick lunch. Only to reach Fazanovo with yet another ineteresting surprise and scare.....
