The view from Villa Nefeli

Arriving at Athens Airport, we had an hour and a half to kill before Tom and Sue (Morgan's parents)'s flight arrived, so we took advantage of the free hour of wifi, and Morgan ordered a Greek coffee which he knew would be gritty, but it also didn't taste that good.  However, my hazelnut cappuccino was delicious.  We also checked on car rental prices, and it looked like about $300 for a week including everything (from Hertz), which was a lot less than we thought.

When Tom and Sue arrived, we texted our driver/guide, Stavros, and found him easily outside the airport. Stavros' English is excellent, and he knows seemingly everything about Marathon, and perhaps the entire country.

It took about an hour to get to the villa in Marathon - the villa is on a peninsula on a hill overlooking the Aegean Sea.

Mom, Dad and Aunt Gail were waiting for us - they had already gone food shopping with Stavros and stocked up on some delicious things.  He took them to the local shops to get that delicious Greek honey and yogurt, fresh soft feta cheese, cold cuts and bread and a to-die-for galaktobouriko cake.  And of course, lots of wine.

Villa Nefeli, the modern villa that we rented from HomeAway.com, has 5 bedrooms, 5 bathrooms, and balconies off every window, and each one of them looks out onto the water.  The wifi is a little dodgy - only available on the main floor, and the unit needs to be restarted often, so I may have to post a lot of this when I get home.  But otherwise, it has every modern convenience and the views are just lovely.

It's located a rocky shoreline with scrub brush and olive trees all around.  It's a bit far away from any town (shops, etc.), and even the sandy beach is a 10 minute drive.  With older folks in our party, we won't be able to walk to anything really, so we'll just have to keep calling Stavros...or rent a car!

After shooting the sh*t and drinking some wine, we went to bed after midnight.
