Not exactly an excursion FROM Canterbury...

this is the start of the narrative. ready? one day, cari decided to walk down the path from the school to the town.
Occasionally there were walks around town. There's not much to see in Canterbury except the Canterbury Cathedral, which is beautiful but you can't go there every day. I mean, I guess you could, but I didn't. I guess I was waiting for them to build an amusement park on the high street or something, because at the time it seemed like there was nothing to do in town that American Cari, with her short attention span, would deign to see. Funny how you realize these things too late.

But anyway, aside from the cathedral, there were a number of little shops that closed at the drop of a hat and a lot of uneven pavement. You could make the 40-minute walk each way up and down the hill to get your groceries and see some pretty buildings on the way, but that was about it. You never felt inclined to stop. Now, of course, I think about how beautiful my surroundings were and how there was actually plenty to do - a number of pubs, a couple places to dance, some nice restaurants and places to shop, and all the gardens you could ever want - but you never really notice those things about the place you live. Life is funny that way.
