What a time!!
My relatively brief time (6 weeks) in Colombia was truly a life-changing, unforgetable experience because of the culture, people, food, climate, everything.
Although the cold weather took some getting used to, I loved it! No sweating from the time you apply your makeup till you end the day!! Couldn't complain. The food was also very different. Who could forget when we (The Caribbean group) asked for gravy to accompany our food and we got ketchup. Ketchup?!! Well, that's was certainly new. I loved the hot dogs, paellas, tortillas especially. and i had the extra pounds to prove it.
The people I met certainly made the trip for me. I still smile when I remember our crazy, cool, caring student guides.
When I left, I felt like I was leaving behind parts of me in each of them. It's amaing how close you can grow with a stranger just after spending a lil bit of time with them. It reminded me that in spite of our differences racially, culturally, demographically, we all represent humanity. But there were some people over there who had never seen dark skinned people. I remember I sweet lil 6-year old girl asking me softly while stroking my face - Why do I have mud all over my skin? All I could do was laugh.Oh and I cant forget the flowers!!!! I was in awe! Roses of all different shapes, colours and sizes, like I had never seen before were in abudance. Truly beautiful.
Sigh....one day I'll be back for sure!
PS: my pics still need to be scanned on to my computer so hopefully i'll be able to share my visual memories sometime soon.
PS: Finally got to scan some pics....yay!!!
