From Feb to Sep 06 I visited every country except Paraguay and the Guianas (no offence to Paraguayans!). To see an overview, click on the photo to the left then "View Trip Summary". Highlights were Patagonia (Arg, Chile), Cordillera Blanca (Peru) and kitesurfing in Is. Margerita, Venezuela!

5-6 July: Guayaquil - Galapogas Launch Pad

Arrived in Guayaquil after a stressful border crossing from Peru which involved numerous forms of transport. Apparently the 2 countries had a war a few decades ago so the border infrastructure isn't too advanced. the bus from Chiclayo dropped me at the Peru border office at 6am... after going through the procedures i had to make my way by motorised tricycle and foot to a collectivo (minivan) office in ecuador for the trip to guayaquil... and then convince them to stop at the ecuador immigration office on the way out of town to get my in-stamp. they said it was no problem but when it came down to it they weren't too happy to stop and wait for me... upside was the driver swindled me to the front of the queue.

Despite reports in the guides of it being a dangerous city, Guayaquil was fairly well developed and had a good feel...good waterfront development. Only stayed one night coz managed to get a flight to the galapogas the next day.
