27 Mar - 1 Apr: El Chalten and Fitz Roy
Bussed to El Chalten with Eva and Han - who had appeared out of nowhere at the razor stand at the supermarket in El Calafate. Sleepy little town located perfectly in a picturesque valley beneath the Fitz Roy and Torre mountains.
28th was my birthday and we celebrated by hiking out to the Torre Glacier which involved crossing a river with a rope and harness. All very fun. Went to dinner and by this time Laura the Argie had arrived to join the celebrations. They even got me a cake!
29th we bussed to the North end of the trails of Los Glaciers NP and walked to the Cerro (Mt) Fitz Roy mirador (lookout) at Laguna de los Tres. Pretty bloody spectacular! Bushwalked (hiked) back to Chalten via Lago Capri where there was a great spot for screaming at a cliff for some good echoes.
30th I climbed Lomo del Pliegue Tumbado (1490m), south of Fitz Roy for an awesome 360 degree panorama of the mountains (Fitz Roy, Torre, Huemul) and Lago Viedma.
31st was going to take it east but did a trail run out to Laguna Torre coz I was feeling restless.
1 Apr: Crap weather but did a loop walk around Lago Capri, Lagunas Madre nd Hija and back vi the Torre track to Chalten. Jumped on the afternoon bus to El Calafate.
