27 Jul - 25 Aug: Kitesurfing at Isla Margerita
I arrived on the Ferry from Puerto la Cruz and headed to the biggest city on Isla Margerita (Porlamar) to get my bearings. Spent two nights there before heading to Playa El Yaque... the kitesurfing capital of Venezuela. Booked into a German run hotel "El Yaque Motion" for a month and got myself geared up with kiting equipment... Writing this on 12 Aug and so far i've only had one day off the water in the last two weeks. Great wind for the so called "off season"! From here it's a short ride to Isla Coche where the World championship freestyle kiting was held recently... I've been there twice so far on the 8th and 11th Aug. Perfect flat water because the wind is offshore... and a recue boat on-hand so you don't drift to Panama after a big crash! (needed it once so far after getting my lines tangled!)
El Yaque is a tranquilo (quiet) little town but apparetly it's buzzing with European windsurfers and kitesurfers between November and April.
