20-22 Jun: Huaraz and Laguna Churup
I arrived in Huaraz at the sparrow's proverbial in a bus from Lima on the 20th. Spent the day trying to get used to the altitude again - Huaraz is at about 3000m. Took a collectivo (spanish for crowded minivan) up to Llupa the next day with a pair of American girls I met at the hostel to do the walk to 4500m and Laguna Churup. Lots of Eucalyptus about so i felt at home with the surroundings but a bit breathless at the altitude... I was OK until we returned to Huaraz in the afternoon and a killer headache set in.
Took an easy day on the 22nd to watch Oz draw with Croatia in the Mundial... only prob was i had to watch it delayed because Brazil was playing at the same time - these peruvians need to get their priorities straight! Also had to do some preps for the trek starting the next day for which we managed to gather a merry multinational group of 6 together.
