From Feb to Sep 06 I visited every country except Paraguay and the Guianas (no offence to Paraguayans!). To see an overview, click on the photo to the left then "View Trip Summary". Highlights were Patagonia (Arg, Chile), Cordillera Blanca (Peru) and kitesurfing in Is. Margerita, Venezuela!

12 March: Brazilian Iguazu Falls and Itaipu

I arrived in Foz do Iguazu early morning after an overnighter from Florianopolis. I did a quick trip out to the Itaipu dam. Damn impressive (sorry engineer gag)- the power station makes 90% of Paraguay's power and 25% of Brazil's power. The dam was spilling at the time and according to the guide there was more than 10 times teh amount of water going over the spillway than iguazu falls.

Didn't realise how impressive that was until seeing the falls from the Brazilian side later that day. Continued over the border to Puerto Iguazu in Argentina on the same day.
