Jagger and Joplin

We were planning on going for a day trip to a different town further up the coast from Salvador, which the name now eludes me since I am writing this entry almost two weeks after the fact, but our hostel host told us that it is the easiest advice to give traveler to go to Arembepe instead.  So we took the local bus north of town for about an hour and a half to get to the small hippie colony that was originated by Mick Jagger and Janis Joplin a few decades ago.

There was an actual town of Arembepe which was small and quiet.  A ten minute walk along the beach brought us to a giant turtle breeding farm.  This was a nice little visit since I had never seen a giant turtle before.

A little further down the red dirt road lined with palm trees was the hippie town comprised of no more than 25 straw roofed buildings.  This was very picturesque but you could walk through it in about 15 minutes and we had a whole day.  So we stopped at the hut that had a hand painted bar sign and went for some beers and chatted the day away.
