Dracula would have certainly loved all his tourists!

Bran Castle (Dracula's Castle) is certainly beautiful and interesting to see, but they do it a disservice by calling it Dracula's Castle - as that gives off the wrong impression of what one is going to experience there.  Accounts of Vlad "The Impaler" Ţepeş (aka Dracula) making his home here are certainly suspect to say the least (he may have spent a day or two in Bran), but it draws in the tourists, so I can't see that changing when the new owners take over (it was recently put up for sale).

The castle sits atop a hill (uh... like most castles & fortresses do), and at the base of the hill there is a marketplace type of area - full of souvenirs and ... well pretty much junk.  As Romania was one of my main points of interest for this trip (in my thoughts pre-trip), I thought it would be nice to pick something up from there.  But I couldn't find anything worth buying ... oh well, less to carry. :D

"Europe's influence on Hollywood" ... I did a chapter on horror films, specifically early Universal Monster films & I talked about Stoker's Dracula & its various incarnations in Hollywood ... so I talked about Vlad the Impaler a bit too ... I'm not sure if it was as a footnote, or actually in the text, but I mentioned about him keeping a gold cup at the well in the middle of the square, any could use it to drink water, but nobody stole it for fear of being impaled.

Believe it or not - I actually wrote about that in my master's thesis.
