Garden of the Gods revisited

We drove up in some pretty nice residential areas up on the hills. Then we drove around the otherside of the highway, up near Garden of the Gods. We went around the back way, up a hill by another gated community and was rewarded with a great view of Garden of the Gods. Not much traffic up there at all - this must be where some of the postcard pictures were taken from. We got a great view of the hogbacks - the ridges of sandstone that resemble a hog's back. The red sandstone rocks in the park is part of the Fountain Formation and the original horizontal beds are now steeply inclined, with some at or near vertical. I love rocks. I love looking at them, collecting them, and climbing on them.
We were looking for a restaurant that advertised a view of the park and offered you to bring your kids in for a root beer float, or a lemonade, or an orange soda or.
We ended up back in the area where the Hill Climb kick off was in downtown Colorado Springs. We stopped at an Irish pub for dinner. We tried to eat there during the kick off, but it had a 40 minute wait. I got the Fish and Chips - yummy! I got a couple of different beers. One was a snakebite - lite beer and Cider. Good, but way too sweet. It was too sweet before I even finished half of it. But I drank it, since I paid for it. Then I ordered just a beer. Brad got some different dark beers - all too bitter for my taste. They had a live band there and I think a bachelor/bachelorette party. It was a fun atmosphere. Obviously most people there were regulars because they all knew the words to all the songs. It was fun, but we left so some fans could sit down at our table.
