Yangshou area
We went walking in Yangshou everyday... We finally braved the vendors to walk towards the boat docking area and were surprised to find there is a cute little park there. It is easy to miss things like this when so many people are yelling for you to look at their wares.... I tend to walk and look and that is taken as a sign that I want to buy..... so we tend to have more than our share of vendor excitement. ...David keeps reminding me but then I look again.... LOL. so back to the park...... The gates are almost hidden by the vendor booths.... So glad we ventured back that direction....
We paid at the gate then went in to explore. The park was beautiful. It had stairs carved into the rock and mountains to climb and amazing views from different places. There was a sort of a museum where they showed how to make fans from pictures. They had the unfolded pictures displayed then some were shown folded and made into fans.... really interesting although there was not a soul around to give us any details... it may be that the people were there and didn't speak english and decided not to try to mime it out for us... Can't blame them for that!
There was also a nice area of bonsai plants.... they were very unusual as they had little scenes in them with stairs and houses... (I really don't know why I don't have pictures of these wonderful little living pictoramas) David especially liked that area.... we accidently got separated for a while while he lingered looking at them and I walked on: sadly with my lack of sense of direction I couldn't find my way back with the different trails and stairs. .. but we had phones and reconnected. We met back at the museum... we found out I forgot to hang up my phone and wasted all of the minutes.
The only people we saw in the park were some teens dressed in traditional clothes embroidering in a pagoda. They took a moment to shoosh some cows off the steps .. I loved seeing the cows but apparently they didn't belong there.... the girls seemed sweet but we didn't talk to them...I did get some great pictures of the the cows!!....
We took a lot of pictures. The paths of the park was well marked and really interesting. I love that a lot of the flowers and plants that grow are in the nurseries and stores for sale at home..... and here they are just growing like weeds..... heck .... they may even be weeds.... but it was beautiful seeing them.. I tried to get pictures of them in their natural settings....
For once the signs were at a minimum.... and that helped with the natural feel of the park.... We saw a man down on the river working with his comorants...... it was not close but it was still very interesting to see.
