Riding through the Imperial Sand Dunes

Yuma Travel Blog › entry 1 of 1 › view trip summary

My first time in the real desert...200 miles outside of Phoenix near Yuma, California. I was stunned to be met with such beauty. The clouds in the sky, as well as the dunes of sand, wove delicate but majestic beauty into the barren landscape.

Riding through the Imperial Sand Dunes

I learned how to ride a quad, and chased jason through the dunes throughout the day. He is fast, and he scaled and leaped those monumental sand hills as though carried on a peregrin. I watched in awe, as i felt my own muscles aching with the thought of accomplishing those feats. We had our own trailer with shower, kitchen, and bed - so we made ourselves a pseudo home for a couple days. It was such a delight. Most memorable was our night ride, when we took the quad up into the sand dunes, under a blanket of stars. We saw shooting stars, satellites, and could point out the various planets and constellations. There is nothing quite like the night sky in the desert. *sigh* or the ravaging orange/purple glow of a desert sunset.... now, look at these photos and picture this landscape being an ocean bottom.
i am certain that once upon a time it was - i even found a random sea shell when photographing the sunset on our last night.  thought of accomplishing those feats.
