Yelapa

'gathering place'. a town of 2000, accessible only by boat, has been likened to places like tahiti and polynesia. the village received its electricity only about three years ago, but by wire - not solar cell. there is no police force, no vehicles to be found. you get around by horse. once on the beach, i was greeted by men with iguanas on their shoulders, and others selling beautiful necklaces and jewelry. i made my way to the horses, as i was eager to get on and start the 1 1/2 mile trek across the river, up the mountain through the village, and to the waterfall.
