Sztutowo - Pretty Beach on the Baltic Sea, Amber and Freezing water

We looked for a place with beach access all along the road heading back from Piaski to towards Jantar (also another Polish word, like Bursztyn, for amber), but didn’t see one until we reached Sztutowo again. It turns out that this is the location of the first of all of the Nazi concentration / death camps. There is a museum as well, but it was closed.

I guess I caught "amber fever" because I spent the majority of the time scrutinizing the sand looking for these tiny pieces of amber! As far as swimming goes - no way! For two reasons: first the water is amazingly cold and second it is something like the color of weak tea....
Later I learned that you can make a kind of "Nalewka" out of these little pieces of amber by putting them in alcohol.
We walked along the beach for well over an hour and I managed to collect a small handful of these little grains of amber. Theres' a picture around here somewhere... There are contests during the summer to see who can collect the most. I'm not sure what I'll do with mine... But I had a nice afternoon on the beach collecting it.
