Great day walking across plains to the dunes.probably the best days game spotting on a trek ever !! .zebra,oryx,springbock,kudu,snakes,chameleon,ostrich.eagles. Absolutely unbelievable .they are going to expect this everyday !!!
Quite a few of the pax know each other from previous trips so the bonding has begun .a pleasure to walk with. A hot day with little shade.a few blisters and one guy sick otherwise no worries great campsite.
Great days walk, more brilliant game viewing,
Again the group were a pleasure to be with No problems at all.
Another unbelievable day.walking to the Doros crater.early lunch as far as the cruiser could go .then up and over the crater ridge, awesome views some of the best views I have experienced in Namibia.great walk down other side of crater to a waterstop once back in plain ,arrived in camp at 1730 tired but exhilarated !!
One of clients unwell at lunch so was brought to camp by vehicle. They encountered giraffe and loads of other in Doros river game enroute.
(this campsite may be moved 1 or 2 km closer to allow an earlier finish.)
Started the day with a two hour game drive down the Doros river in faans truck.
Saw loads of game again, including a pair of giraffe, kudu, oryx, springbock, african wild cat, dassie, eagles and a lone black rhino........
What a start to the day !!!!
Had to adapt lunch stop to accommodate late start to walk.were pestered by bees and 3-4 people got stung.long hot afternoon across the plains ,got picked up in two groups and transported into camp by bakkie. We could have walked to camp before dark but had already mentioned a pick up.Brilliant camp site !!!! Camping in shadow of a koppjie.campfire under an overhanging rock.great spot !
HYENA'S DEN CAMP
The Mornings walk follows a wall like protrusion along the undulating terrain, beautiful rock formations.then after water stop we crossed the riverbed and followed the serpents back ridge to
Following lunch we turned into a gorge and dropped into another river system where we had to climb a steep ridge then climb and scramble down the other side to rejoin the riverbed, before entering the Ughab river.this soon brought us to
UGHAB RIVER CAMP
S20° ' "
E014° ' "
Short walk to SRT camp.
Continued to pickup point and finish line.
Total of 3 hrs
Transfer to Walvis bay
WAke up 730
Breakfast arranged in Walvis .visit to HIV / AIDS activity centre.very impressed with professional presentations by staff there,(good place for possible project for AMFAR?)AMFAR promised to ship some donated items for the centre .
Bus departed for Windhoek.
Gary and Sarah were brilliant helping us with all of the incidents in and around Walvis .
Initially I was excited to be doing a new route in Namibia but also sad that the old route that I enjoyed so much has been ruined by mining activity .We were also a little anxious about the potentially demanding American clients.as it turns out there was no need.the rep was great, a good link to the group. And the group were an absolute pleasure to work wlth.the new route is excellent , in my opinion even better than the Naukluft route. All adding up to the best trek I have been involved in !!!!!
