Seconds!
August 4, 2007
Yup, seconds as second day in SD, and as I'll take SD seconds please!
It was my official first day of work in SD, since the Sandbox Symposium was starting today. So heading up to the Convention Center, checking the good room number, attending the sessions...
Part of it was actually quite interesting, though it was a bit too amateur for a videogame conference (ok, it's not GDC).
Anyway, here's the interesting bit. I had to check out the other beaches today, so I joined with fellow travbuddy Elise again and we met up at Mission Beach this time. And this is what I called real californian action beach: fun fair, long stretch of sand, skaters, cyclers, bbq, beer, music... hell, never saw such a thing in front of beach!
You can figure out the setting is quite different from Ocean Beach, it's more. .. lively. Maybe because it was Saturday, but frankly seeing the shops nearby and the fact Mission Bay with all its traffic is just two streets away, I can imagine this is pretty much the same all week long. Intense!
After bodysurfing for a while and enjoying the sun on my brand new SD beach towel, Elise drove me back to the city and got the right timing to catch a plane landing at the airport, just in front of us. Nice! (airport is sooo close to the highway, it's amazing to drive by when a plane is landing)
I joined my French co-workers later on, and we all had dinner at Hawaiian restaurant at the Marina, just behind the Marriott. As we were all going out to smoke a cigarette at the end of the meal, waiters began to freak out seeing us running away!
