Cigarettes~
"Argentina is the leading consumer of cigarettes in South America." Implications? Consequences?
I've gained a very personal charge regarding this subject..considering I cannot sit near the wireless router to write my blogs without second hand smoking half a pack. Even worse than the dog crap randoming the sidewalks, I'd easily call the large number of smokers that inhabit Buenos Aires its worse attribute. A great source for statistical information regarding Buenos Aires growing number of smokers (particularly youth) resides at: (http://www.cdc.gov/tobacco/global/gyts/factsheets/2000/Argentina_factsheet.htm) Nearly 1 out of every 3 people in this city smoke! That's crazy. Especially for an individual who detests smoke.. the amount of second hand smoke I've been receiving has definitely played into my consderation of relocating here upon GaTech graduation. The "Prohibido Fumar" signs are casually ignored in almost all areas of the city, therefore it's hard to find refuge from smoke filled buildings. The only outlet is the parks that line the main streets..most of which intake car exhaust and noise. Talking to my friends Andrea and Sole..both jokingly deny their addiction to cigarettes of which they smoke more than a pack a day. Sheepishly denied, and reguarly accepted... Buenos Aire's smoking addiction outlook appears dark.
