Stavanger.
This is avery addictive place to live. A lot of people come here on temporary assignment due mainly to the oil and gas industry and end up staying. I think one of the reasons is the good looking inhabitants!!.
The town centre is extremely busy on the weekend with a fun atmosphere although it can get a bit wild at times. There is a night out to suit whatever your tastes, from chic trendy wine bars to grungy rock bars. Be warned though, it is shockingly expensive. About £5 for a beer($10) £7 ($14) for liquior and wine. Most people tend to stay home and drink with friends at a vor spiel (before party), and then head into town around 11pm. that way you dont have to spend much when out. These are sometimes the best part of the evening.
You only have to travel a very short distance to find amazing scenery and a peaceful retreat. You will never be short of options when going for a walk and sightseeing. There is so much great scenery and the beaches are lovely.
In the summer there are always lots of different events. In July the centre virtually shuts down to allow 'leisure time'. The FIVB world volley ball championships are held in the centre on specially prepared temporary courts. At the end of the month there is a great food festival
In 2008 Stavanger will be the European city of culture, sharing the role with Liverpool in the UK. It should be a great year.
