My couch view of the Queensboro Bridge...

It was snowing at La Guardia and our flight landed a half hour late.  Bitter cold, I didn’t see any signs for the subway so I headed for an info desk.  Here I learned the subway doesn’t serve this airport (JFK is covered) and I would need to catch a bus.  Disappointing, but the Metro Card I bought could be used for buses and the subway, so I ventured outside to the chilly bus stop.  There were perhaps twenty five folks at the stop, and a bus stopped, opened its doors and quickly pulled away when it was clear nobody was interested in his route.  Several minutes later another bus pulled up and EVERYBODY queued up.  This wasn’t my bus, but I mean 100% of the folks beyond myself started cramming for the bus doors.  Ever so slowly they paid and boarded, while a second bus pulled just in front of the first bus in the second lane and opened its doors. A third bus pulled in behind the big attraction, neither of the other two getting any takers.  Suddenly I saw a bus idling by way out in the third lane which was my bus!  I waved my arms and started to sprint, but it never opened its doors and quickly moved on.

Because I had been texting with Jenn and she had recommended just cabbing it, this nuisance validated that option and before long I finally got to meet Jenn.  After a warm greeting and a warming cup of tea, we ventured back out into the elements and I finally did get to ride the subway to a terrific sushi dinner at BANY (which = Best Asian New York).  Returning to Jenn and Marcel’s pad, we enjoyed a movie and called it a night.  My couch faced a huge window offering a brilliant view of the Queensboro Bridge…a lovely welcome to the big city.
