Chill out modus...

I'm going back in time with this blog.. it's a while ago that i (we) went to Egypt but it is still hanging on somewhere in my brain, so i try to tell you about my travel there...

On 19-08-2004 i went by plane to Hurghada in Egypt, travelling by car would extend my holliday with 100 days? so the plane was a better plan ;p

When the plane touched down on the ground of Egypt i felt a bit strange.. What could i expect here? Would it be like Turkey? When i was there i had a great holiday and the people there were realy friendly.. When I walked out of the plane, i got a blow of warm wind right up into my face... Damn it's hot out here... I was happy it couldn't be better...

Hurghada is a small town with a lot of hotels and resort's, if youre comming to see the real people of egypt you shouldn't be staying here.

dinner any one?
. I knew that before i left so i was not suprized to see the golden M on every corner of the street...(check photo)

The resort where i stayed was wonderfull, it was big clean and had a great swimming pool.. even a midget(mini) golf..

The second day we went to the beach near the hotel (accros the street), but it wasn't that great.. Red sand/ stones it wasn't what i had in mind when i saw the wonderfull pictures in the brochure.. (as usual)

That brings me back to my holiday in Turkey, on the roof there should be a swimming pool. The brouchure even showed pictures of it, so i asked the man from the hotel where the swimming pool was.. he said no there is no swimming pool... Then he said the magical words Computer Computer.. And from that day i knew that not every thing in life is what it looks like :p even then they had photoshop in turkey.

valley of the kings
..

Oke where were we... o yes Hurghada...

Later that week we made a trip to the valley of the kings! it contains many of the tombs of pharaohs from the new kindom including Tutankhamun and Ramesses the Great...

Early in the morning we had to stand in front of the hotel reception and wait for the bus to come..

When the arrived the guide told us that we would get an police escort to the valley of the kings.. He said it was because of the terrorist attacks several  years before.. many tourists died that day.. So that was my wake up call and i was wide awake from that point on.. :p We went to a assemblage Point where all the busses came together, from there we went on with the trip to the valley.. (+- 100 busses?) The trip got us right thru small vilages with people who were standing outside there houses and watching us go bey.

. I saw the poverty were these people life in and it touched me inside.. We were "racing" thru there small village's with alle those busses, and police forces around us blocking there crossings so we wouldn't have to stop..

After a racetrip we got to our destination.. now we were finaly there :) still with some adrenaline in my systhem i went out the bus and got again into a wall of hot air... The valley of the Kings is a magical place.. it gave me the feeling i walked into the time that the kings were still alive. Great statues every where and in realy great condition! My camera made over hours there an airco 4 my camera should be a must...

After a while we went on with the bus to a nother side seeing spot.. When the camera was almost in meltdown modus we got in a boat and went down the river Nile.

. After a few minutes we crossed the Nile and went ashore and got into a nother bus who took us to the valley it self...

There we visit the tombs of pharaohs, it was a bit strange to walk into a tomb.. it felt a bit creapy, maybe it was because there was a mummy on the ground in the hallway...We looked around and went back to the bus..

The bus took us again on a race trip back to our hotel thru the small villages.. After several hours we were back with a nother memory of a great day in my life..

The rest of the holiday we didn´t do much more than going out for some drinks and hang around on the beach or swimming pool.. The night life in Hurghada is not that great, you have several good restaurants and several good bar´s - disco´s.

valley of the kings

Overall this holiday was great only you must watch out for the shop keepers.. They wil try to get you into there shops and won´t let you out until you buy something :p The trick is to get a suntan before getting to Egypt, so it looks like youre a visitor who is there for several weeks allready.. Or say that you allready bought every thing he has in his shop :)

I hope you liked the journal a bit i wrote :) my english isn't that great but understandible.. (i hope)

In the beginning of aug. i will go to Barcelona.. so maybe till then! cheers!
