Las Raices: seafood mofongo

After a morning flight from NYC to San Juan, I met up with my friends, Winnie and Kattie, at the airport, before taking the shuttle van to the car rental place, of which took forever!

Needless to say, by the time we got our car and drove to the hostel we booked in Old San Juan, it was time for us to head back to the airport to pick up our couple friends - Ellen and Kei.

The weather was hot and humid - of course, it was in the middle of summer - August to be exact.

After checking in, we were starved! We wanted Puerto Rican food, afterall, it was our first night on the island. As we walked around, Old San Juan and by the pier, we found a place.

Yum yum! Over margaritas, we inhaled our food at Las Raices - seafood mofongo, Chuleta Kan Kan, ceviche and papas. After a filling dinner, we decided to walk around - needed to burn off all the high-fat-caloric dinner.

Old San Juan streets are a mixed of concrete and cobble-stones with one-way lane streets. The buildings are noticeably worn down, not because of age, but of neglect. A lot of the shops are out of business and are not well-maintained. Too bad.

At the end of the night, we opened a bottle of wine and sat the veranda on the 5th floor of our hostel, Posada San Francisco, where we enjoyed the night view of Plaza de Colon and the pier.
