Le Cinque Terre
July 19, 2007
These 5 beautiful villages on the coast cascade down into the sea. According to the guidebook there are over 7000km of dry stone walls supporting the olive groves vineyards. We stayed in Corniglia and the next day caught the train to two of the other villages, Vernazza and Menaggio. Vernazza was so beautiful, tiny alleys with staircases leading up round corners, peppered with bright geraniums, basil, passion fruit climbers, bourganvillia, and even brighter paper flowers covering open windows. At Menaggio we sampled the local wine and had a lovely lunch, Nicholas bought lots of wine including a dessert wine for us to drink in Greece on the boat.
