Day of Assumption, dancing all night long

It was pretty hard to find accommodation as this seems to be the most popular week to holiday on the island, but after much searching we were lucky to find a place in Armenistis which had a cancellation.

Ikaria is beautiful. Sandy beaches, rugged, pine covered hills and people so relaxed and friendly it is like being with family.

On the evening of the 15th was a festival to celebrate Our Lady of Assumption and the school yard was filled with trestle tables with a dance floor in the centre. Food was served up from the school hall, and at about midnight the music started and with it the Greek dancing. Everyone who was there joined in, and there must have been over 200 people filling the playground. The dancing was fantastic, easy to pick up and long and hot and fun. The local red wine helped things along, and although we left at 2am the party was still in full swing.
