Chained car
August 16, 2007
It was 10 days since we had left the car in Piraeus to explore the Greek Islands. We'd left the car in a parking lot but weren't sure if the guy on duty understood that we were going to be away for more than a day. Was the car still going to be in the car park on our return?
We walked in with our bags about 6.30 pm, and our car, along with a couple of others, was still there. Hooray! But as we got nearer, we noticed a sign stuck on the drivers door, and as we rounded the back of the car saw that the wheels on the drivers side had been chained together! Obviously we hadn't paid enough!
A couple of phone calls later and the owners friend came along, and cut the chain with a hacksaw after we paid the remaining balance. By this time Nicholas was incredibly red in the face from all his shouting (haha). He drove out of Athens as fast as possible and stopped on a small but lovely town just outside for dinner.
