Me, Lori, Stu and Nell were all in the same room at the hostel and today we decided to rent ATVs and drive around the island. We all rented 4 wheelers but I think its pretty safe to say that I got the shitty ATV, I would find this out more later on...But we started heading out of the Perissa beach area and just drove around and took some random turns, got a little lost. Then we just followed the 'beach' signs.
The first beach we found was the red beach. We drove up there through a little town and parked our ATVs in the parking lot, which was a pretty big challenge I must say. Then we walked down to the beach area but on the way there Stu's sandal broke! Anyone who's ever walked to the red beach knows that the walk there is anything but smooth.
the last beach
So that was sucky, but the beach was really awesome. We went swimming for a bit before heading to our next beach.
I don't know exactly where this beach was, but it was pretty empty. I think down the road it was busier, but where we were was pretty dead. It was awesome though, the water was so nice! So we swam around there for a while before packing up and heading to our next destination. Oh, and it was ridiculously hot out that day, there were parts of the drive where it actually felt like there was like a blow dryer pointed at me it was that ridiculous. But I don't have my driver's license so I'm not very good at driving...
The last beach we went to was my favorite. There were big cliffs that people were jumping off and the water was insanely clear, I could see the ocean floor but couldn't touch it! It was amazing.
greece is so pretty!
We did some more swimming there and then decided to head up to Oia for the sunset. I'm pretty sure we took the long way around, but that was okay because we basically drove around the coast the entire time for some amazing views of the ocean, it was unreal. We got to Oia and parked our ATV's and then had some food. We had gyro's. Those things are delicious! Then we decided to walk around the town before the sunset. We split up for a bit and did some exploring. I bought a couple of really nice, cheap bracelets. The town is so cool! I loved it. Then we all went to get spots to watch the sunset. The sunset wasn't as good as it usually is, or so we heard, because of the insane 45 degree heat.
After the sunset we drove our ATVs back, or I attempted to.
i love this picture so much, one of my favorites of the trip
At one point I was pretty sure I was going to start rolling backwards, my ATV was barely moving up the hill. The signs were really confusing and we couldn't figure out how to get back. It took us a while and we had to have the 4 wheelers back by 10 but we didn't get there until 10:30ish and the guy closed his store:S So we parked them out front and went back to our hostel, hoping the guy wouldn't be too pissed in the morning. Then we drank on the patio with a bunch of people from our hostel, but the staff said we were being too loud so they kicked everyone out and some of us went to the beach to sit on the chairs and chill for a while. But I took my shoes off and went into the ocean and when I came back one of my flip flops was missing! It was a great tragedy, I crawled all over the beach looking for it, I was pretty sad. It was a lot of fun, though...another good night in Santorini! But I had yet to see Perissa beach during the day...
