It's a really, really small world...
Billy and Melissa left early in the morning, but we made plans to meet up again in Berlin. Lori and I got ready to go explore the city and then left. We walked to the main part of the city, through one of the city gates. We decided to go the top of the Frauenkirche for a view of Munich. It was alright, I probably wouldn't do it again.
We were walking down the city center when 2 people ran up behind us and grabbed onto our backpacks..it was 2 girls we went to highschool with that graduated a year before us! We had no idea they were in Europe. They were just in Munich for the day on their way from Hungary to Venice. It was insane, what are the odds of that. They had already been to Munich so they showed us around the city a bit and we went into Englischer Garden to walk around, I really wanted to find the part of the river that people surf on.
First we went to the Chinese beer garden and had some french fries and beer, we also stole our mugs, an excellent souvenir. On our way out we ran into ANOTHER person from my highschool that I graduated with, that I actually travelled to Japan with in 2001. It was insane, I couldn't believe it, I knew she was in Europe but I had no idea where. We went up to her and it talked for a while and she told us that another girl I graduated with would be there later that afternoon. I was pretty much in shock and I'm still not over it, what are the odds of that? Three different groups of people from the same highschool running into eachother in the same city, of all places we could have been, we were there at that time. Its crazy. We made plans to meet up later that night at Wombats.
The 4 of us went to the place where people surf, which was really cool. Then we walked over to the parliament area, where we ran into the girl from highschool again. Lori and I booked a tour to Neushwanstein the next day so we went into a grocery store to buy snacks. When we were leaving the store we ran into the girl that was arriving later that day! Insane. We went back to our hostel for a bit and then met up with Ali and Michelle for dinner..they introduced us to kebabs, our favorite food ever! So good.
Then we made our way to Wombats for a crazy highschool reunion. While there we ran into 2 girls that we met in London on our first night in Europe at the Wombats bar..its a really small world. We had some beers at happy hour and met some more people and went to the Hofbrauhaus again with a big group from Wombats. Lori and I shared an apple strudel and some beer. Then we went back to Wombats and watched the Stanley Cup finals! It started at 2am, all the Canadians got up and sang the national anthem, they had the CBC feed and we watched Don Cherry, it was awesome. Lori and I got seperated for a bit and we finally met up at our own hostel at like 5am. Another good night in Munich.
