So we basically headed right to the Eiffel Tower as we knew it would take us a while to get to the top. We got in line and waited. When waiting in long lines we almost always listened to Dane Cook..it made the time go by faster. When we were in line a girl from...China maybe? I can't remember, asked if she could skip the long part of the line and wait with us because she had a flight to catch that night and didn't want to risk being late. It was no big inconvenience to us so we let her. She was pretty nice too. We eventually got the front and got on the 1st elevator.
After we got the the first floor we walked around for a bit before heading to the second elevator. It was a little bit confusing, or at least we thought it was. We had a tought time finding the elevator lol, but we got it eventually.
champs de mars
That line was also really long. The lineups at the bottom of the eiffel tower are deceiving as there are 2 more when you get up there! We waited in that one though and eventually got the the 2nd floor. There were some shops that we went into before getting in the line to go to the top. But we got there eventually...The view was amazing! Paris
is a beautiful city, I loved it there. From the top you could see the Champs Elysees and the Arc de Triumph and the Invalides, among other things. After being up there for a while we decided to go down again. We spent a good portion of our day at the Eiffel Tower.
When we got to the bottom we sat on the grass(we checked for chocolate first.
..) and just looked at the tower for a bit. It's so amazing! We also were a little sad, because our trip would be over in just 3 days. Which was very depressing, we did NOT want to go home at all. After chilling there for a while we decided to walk back to our hostel.
When we got there we changed rooms again and in our new room we met an 18 year old French guy who we would later hate! He walked in and right away we didn't like him. The first thing he said was 'Do you speak French?' We said no and he was like 'Well then I'm not going to talk to you'...Thats so rude! Its not our loss, we'll just talk to eachother, hes the one with nobody else to talk to. He did end up talking to us for a bit anyways. Then Lori asked me if I wanted to go get some dinner.
eiffel tower shadow!
I said yes and then this guy was like 'Okay lets go to the Champs Elysees for dinner.' We both looked at eachother like WTF? But he came with us anyway. We got to the metro station and he asked me for money for a ticket! The nerve...I said no way buy your own. I didn't even know him! Plus we didn't even want him there. He ended up picking a receipt off the ground and trying to use it, obviously it didn't work. Then he went in on my ticket so it wouldn't let me through! The security guy let me pass...but we had a bad feeling about this idiot. As we're walking down the hall Lori threw her ticket out because she had no pockets and she didn't think she'd need it again because its all connected underground. Well that turned out to be not such a good idea as we turned the corner and there was a line of ticket checker police.
me climbing down the stairs of the eiffel tower
We walked up to them and I was the only one with a ticket so I didn't have to pay but Lori tried to tell them she just threw hers out but she actually paid for it and they wouldn't hear it. She had to pay a 40 euro fine. Then the jackass French guy asked me to pay for his fine! Ha, as if I told him no way I didn't even know him I wasn't going to front him 40 euros, he said all he had was a 200 euro travellers cheque. That got me thinking what the hell was he going to do when we got dinner? So Lori and I left him there. She was pretty upset. What makes us mad is that we NEVER cheated the metro systems in any city we went to, we always bought tickets, and she even had a ticket that day. So frustrating.
So we got the Champs Elysees pretty pissed off. We looked for a place to eat and we found this Sandwich and Apple place.
sitting on the eiffel tower
.it was wierd, and they were out of apples! So we got muffins. But it was really good and cheap and we got to sit on the sidewalk patio and eat. Seriously though, birds in Europe aren't afraid of anything! They were under the canopy and jumping on peoples tables and trying to eat everyones food, it was insane!
After that Lori and I just went back to our hostel. We sat on the patio and had some beers with some English guys...one of which looked like Jude Law! Gorgeous..and some Americans and Canadians. Somehow we got to talking about health insurance and this stupid American guy said he had no health insurance because he didn't want to live like 'what if'. Thats so dumb! What if you got into an accident that was no fault of your own and needed surgery.
dinner on the champs elysees after the metro fine..
..but had no health insurance. I was getting frusterated with this guy because thats so stupid! Anyways, we talked to them for a while and then the French idiot from before walks up! I thought Lori was going to fight him. First thing he says is 'thanks for leaving me there'. I was so mad we were both just like 'are you kidding me! We had met him like 20 minutes earlier, no way we would cover for him' He goes on and tells this sob story about how the police came and he was almost arrested and almost had to pay a 200 euro fine, but then conveniently his dad works at the American Embassy in Paris so he get off and has to pay nothing! When he didn't even buy a ticket!! So then we tells us he went and bought some 200 euro sunglasses to reward himself. Him and Lori argued for quite a while and then he gave her like 1.50 euro to pay for her next metro ticket. How in the heck does that make any sense at all!! Jerk. We couldn't even handle sitting at the same table as him so we went to bed.
