Because we were unable to get an overnight to Paris we had to take day trains. We were a bit tired after not getting back until pretty much the time we had to leave this morning, but sleeping is what trains are for right? So we got to the train station and it turns out the train we had to take didn't leave for a couple hours! So we sat reading British tabloids for a bit before catching that train. That train ride was 3 hours and then we had to change trains at the French/Spanish border again and wait an hour or so for the next train. That train was also about 3 hours long. The next layover was a couple hours long at least. Then we took another train that was approximately 3 hours again. That one went to Paris though, we were so excited.
When we got to the train station we had no idea where to go and the directions to our hostel sucked! All it said was that it was near 2 metro station, it didn't say what ones! So we decided instead of trying to figure out what ones we'd just take a taxi. Our driver was really nice and friendly. It was so exciting, first we drove past Notre Dame, which was all lit up at night. Then we caught our first glimpse of the Eiffel Tower! It was nighttime so it was all lit up, it was so exciting!
We got to our hostel, the Three Ducks, eventually. We went into the reception, which was also a bar. We had our big bags on so we were a little squished. We went up to our room, which was on the 3rd floor. It was a 12 bed dorm I believe, but it was split up into 2 rooms. When we walked in a big guy walked up to us and said 'Where are you headed?' We were a bit confused so we just said 'Bed 11 and 12?' It was a bit strange. We got to our room and there were a few people in there. A guy our age from Washington state and an Australian. We got to talking for a little while and we made plans to hang out the next night for Bastille Eve. We went to bed pretty quickly as it was a pretty long day.
