Visiting friends at Røros, 20-21 July 2007
It is early morning 7 pm 20 July, "Dangerous Red" (my car) and I am going on a road tour Trondheim-Røros. I`ll bee visiting some friends in their holiday cottage, for hillclimbing and social cosiness.
This is not the first time driving to Røros, but the drive has always been a transport stage from A to B. The distance I`m driving, 155 km , usually it takes 2 - 2,5 houers depending on summer or winter road. To day I have decided to use some time driving through the landscape formed by the agricultural traditions, have my eyes wide open, enjoy being on the road. It is nice driving weather, I`m in a good mood, looking forward to meet my friends.
The drive takes me through small agricultural villages with farmers houses and cow`s (my favorite animales) in the fields.
I make a few stops to photograf cow`s, landscape and houses, thrilled to bee on my way. When you have been driving the same distance for some times, you know the way, know what`s meeting you round the next corner. I realized that the landscap was well known for me, and not so inspiring as I thought it would bee. So what now? Suddenly a sign appeared beside the road. OK I thought, I`ll bee photografing signs on my tour to Røros.
This is an old road, and signs sometime changes looks. Some signs disappear, giving birth to new. I think I know most of them, but do I. What do this signs really mean? The society is in change, and new warnings appeare.
I liked my tour to Røros this day. Driving through tunnels (lots of them in Norway), lots of cheaps and cows in the fields, new views, good mood and little exited to meet my friends.
We have planded to hillclimb to day, and visit Røros town this afternoon for night shopping and amusement. The nights here are light, the sun goes late to bed.Arriving my friends holiday cottage about 11pm ( 4 houers on the road), Greta had prepared a nice lunch. I like to bee served. But our plan was hillclimbing, after a quick change of cloths we were on our way. The climb was nice, the muscles a bit tierd, but now it is time for nightshopping.
The streets at Røros was rather croudy, but with a cuple glasses of beer and musicians playing in the streets we felt good. But tomorrow is a new day with new experiences so we had to return to the cottage for a few houers on the ear.
The next day I went sightseeing at Røros.
333 years of mining activity on the mountain slopes of Røros created wealth for the owners and the State, a livelihood for the workers and a world heritage site for posterity.
The mining town of Røros was included on the list of World Heritage Sites in 1980. 333 years of mining and animal husbandry in the town created a unique town on the mountain slopes. The reason for inclusion in the list reads:
Røros is a unique mining town built exclusively of wood. The town has for 333 years been a melting pot of cultures and influences from Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Trondheim and the surrounding district. This has resulted in a wooden house environment, which represents much of Norway`s finest traditions, and is unique in our country`s industrial, social, cultural and architectural areas. The mining town of Røros and its surroundings is a characteristic example of a special traditional style of wood architecture creating a unique town 600 metres above sea level.
The wooden houses and the centre of the town are included on the list.
The mining town has retained much of its original structure in the layout of the streets from the 1600s, and the wooden houses built in the1700 and 1800s.Røros airport celebrated fiftieth anniversary Saturday 21 July. A good reason for me to visit the airport. Here I could see old plains doing loops, formation flying and things I do not have a name on. After a few houers on the airport it was time for me to drive back to Trondheim.
The drive back to Trondheim was warn, the sun was shining and the temperatur was round 25 celsius. But I was in a good mood after visiting friends, hillclimbing, nightshopping, sightseeing and enjoying air plains.
