Transportation Observations
August 17, 2007
I've already explained the wonders of the Micros here in Conce, but now's the time to explore transportation as a whole in the area. First, there are not very many speed limit signs. I've seen about three. Therefore, it seems the only speed reducers are the stoplights and the horses and carts in the street. Yes, there are horses and carts on the streets. I'm not sure what the funcion of them are, but they all look the same and there's always two people in the cart. Regarding parking in the city, basically wherever a car can fit seems to be a good place to park. The most popular spots are the dirt between the road and the sidewalk. Concepción also has taxis called colectivos, which I have never seen before. Each taxi has a specific route, so they are more like mini-Micros than like the taxis in the States. There are other taxis that go anywhere, but you have to call a special number to get one. These taxis are especially nice late at night/early morning when you need to get home from a party and don't want to ride with the drunk guy going by your house.
