Rain, Rain, Rain
October 25, 2007
I arrived in Valdivia at the lovely hour of 4 am. I sat in the bus terminal until 7 because it was raining, and I didn't feel like wandering in the dark and rain to find a hostel or hotel that was open. At 7 I left the terminal and started walking around. After about an hour of wandering in a town where nothing is open until 8 (not even a café or little store) I eventually found a hostel with an open room for the night. Unfortunately, I couldn't check in then because it was still occupied, so I left to wander some more. I eventually got to the museums on Isla Teja, which were luckily open. They were pretty interesting with the old furniture and such. Unfortunately because it had been so rainy all day there were no tours going to the forts, which is the main attraction in Valdivia, so after another few hours wandering around (with a newly purchased umbrella) I went back to my hostel, checked-in, and watched movies all night. I woke up Friday to more rain, which meant no tours to the forts, so I decided to move on to Puerto Varas.

I stayed in a private room and bath for 15.000 pesos. The price is average for what it was. The bath was very spacious with the world's smallest shower, which was a bit confusing. The room was very comfy (central heating!) with a big bed and great quality cable! This came in handy while I was hiding from the rain. The breakfast in the morning was above average as I got meat with my bread and a piece of pie.
