Break Market

I'm in Chile for the semester finishing up my International Minor in Engineering (Latin America) by taking classes on Latin America's culture, music, history, etc. I'm also rapidly becoming more fluent in Spanish!

Break Market

Me, Kelly, Lorena - she's the one who called all her friends!
Yesterday I spent my Friday evening as most Chilean university students do - smoking (the Chileans, not the Americans), drinking, and talking in the Break Market. My friend from UIUC, and I met up with a Chilean girl in the Break Market. Soon after we got there about 7 more of her friends showed up. She had called them all to come so the norteamericanas could meet more people! I was super surprised by her thoughtfulness. I really enjoyed meeting all her friends. The funniest thing of the evening was how every conversation had the same format: what's my name, my origin (1/2 chinese 1/2 german), what am i studying here, why chile? I had a really great time chatting with all the Chileans because they are all super patient when I stammer out something, and they all slowed down their speaking, so that I could understand. I'm really looking forward to spending more time with these guys and learning more about Chilean culture.
