We, about eighteen of us, should have left Todmorden by coach at 22.00 but there were the odd problems so it was nearer to 22.30 when we got away. There was plety of room for everybody to have a double seat and we had been advised to bring rug and pillow. However these, though valuable, do nothing to cure the total inadequacy of leg room and I did not sleep a wink.

We had a break of forty-five minutes at Watford Gap Services and reached Dover at about 05.00 to take the 06.00 ferry to Dunkerque. The crossing lasted about two hours and the coach then took us to Roncq. At the time I could not understand how we could lose the car park where we were to meet our French hosts as several people had been before. I now know that if it were left to me to find it in 2015, I should not have a clue how to find it!

However, after a telephone call, we eventually arrived and were welcomed heartily by our hosts.
