Hi all! Stumbled (literally) across this site a few months ago and this is my first blog for it. My wife and I took a quick, "dart-tossed" trip to New York during March. We had some free airline tickets and hotel points that we had to use up, so off we went!
We actually wound up staying in Queens, but right on the highway so we had a short trip directly into Manhattan. We flew over the island late at night on Thursday and marveled at all the lights and density below us! Wished I had gotten a shot, but wasn't expecting it.
Friday we got up early and took a cab into Manhattan. We started out near St. Paul's Cathedral...don't remember what we were targeting initially, but we started just walking around.
Sony had a great inflatable Spiderman strung up about three stories tall! Looked good. Couldn't get into the Sony Experience exhibit, so we planned to return Saturday.
We continued walking around, using our trusty Hotel provided map and managed to find Rockefeller Center. Wasn't anything like I expected it...looks bigger on TV...but I guess all things do. We got there at the tail-end of the NBC news show, so we couldn't jump and scream in the background.
Saw a tour bus "loading zone" and decided to give it a shot. Man, were we glad we did!! Took us about five hours on/off...but we saw more than we ever could have and learned more than we wanted to know! :-D
Got to see many of the sites we had already walked past, saw where Lennon lived, Strawberry Fields (for those who don't know, its a park directly across the street from Lennon's address), and many other places. I would strongly recommend something like this to "newbies" like us! Gives you an idea of what to go back to as well as seeing a LOT in a short amount of time.
We even managed to score some reduced-priced Broadway tickets to Momma Mia! I'd been wanting to see that for a long time. Since I'm the ABBA fan of the family, my wife wasn't all that convinced, but after the show, she was raving about it!
Well...THAT ended Day One, and I left a lot out but still have Day Two to post some time soon.
