La Ciudad de los Palacios

This summer I decided not to go to Europe for a change, so instead I went to the beautiful Mayan Riviera in Mexico.

La Ciudad de los Palacios

Beautiful, right?

"La ciudad de los palacios" means "the city of palaces" which is what Baron Alexander Von Humboldt nicknamed Mexico when he first arrived there. We got a couple of good history lessons during this trip! I've been to Mexico before but only to Playa Del Carmen and Cancun. The Mayan Riviera is beautiful. Beaches surrounded by nothing but miles and miles of wilderness and not a house in sight. I went snorkling for the first time here we saw stingrays, barracudas, eels, and not to mention the array of unique yellow, orange, and green coral, and the hundreds of tiny rainbow fish. The water was so shallow we had to be careful not to touch the coral with our bodies. The beach this time of year was full of ocean plants which bothers some people, but not me, it makes me feel more intune with nature. Our hotel room was at the incredible Paradissus resort. It truly was a real life paradise there. We also saw a group of mexican dancers perform a series of dances from different regions of Mexico, it was beautiful, and they wore traditional costumes which were brightly colored and happy and so different from anything I've ever seen.
