Badly damaged building from the NATO bombings, not sure why they haven't pulled it down
Rocky had managed to change his bus without charge to the next one so he hung around the hostel until it left.

Meanwhile me and the other guys headed up to Ada which is an island in the Danube with an damn forming an artificial lake and a couple of pebbley beaches.

On the way I saw some buildings that were still badly damaged from the bombing by NATO. I'm surprised that they haven't been pulled down as I can't see any reason to keep them there. They only seem to server to remind everyone of what happened, something which is probably best forgotten for all concerned. I shall have to ask one of my Serb friends when I get a chance.

The weather was extremely hot so we chilled in the shade or messed around in the water. I decided that I would swim out as far as I could then head back when I got tired, but I got quite far across and was sure that I could make it all the way over to the other side.

I did manage but was so tired I couldn't swim straight back over. Also without my shoes I couldn't walk back as the concrete was too hot. I had decided to make my way around in the water as far as I could then work out the rest when I got there but hopping over the hot beach area 2 local girls were laughing at me and I ended up chatting to them for quite a while. They were really nice and it was great to make friends with local people.

Later on they swam back over with me, it seemed easier this time, maybe I was warmed up or may it was just because I had company. They had a short rest and headed back over. We hung around for a while longer then had a bite to eat at a stall a little further up then walked around the other side for the afternoon and a beer.

I bumped back into the girls again and hung around with them for a couple more hours before they had to go. They told me that I'd gone to the wrong splav the night before and the ones on either side were much better, I'll know for next time. They also said that Ada gets very busy at weekends, making it nearly impossible to even find a spot to put a towel down. I had thought it was pretty busy anyway. Nina suggested I go and see the photo display up at the fortress which somehow I had missed the previous day, she was going to meet me but turns out she couldn't make it.

I went up and looked at the pictures anyway which were amazing. I think the display is called Earth From Above. Half way through there was an inpromptu firework display that was short but pretty cool. On the way back I had a burger at the little shop next to the hostel which was pretty tasty and not like the burgers you get over here. Was much more spicy.

Got back in to find my bed had been pinched but I moved into the other room which had air conditioning anyway and was a better deal.
