Visited Naples, Pompeii, Rome, Pisa, Florence and Venice on a 10 day tour of Italy.

Pompeii is the reason why most people choose to go to Naples and is probably the most famous of the Roman ruins after the Colosseam.

Pompeii is a ruined Roman city near modern Naples It, along with Herculaneum, was destroyed, and completely buried, during a catastrophic eruption of the volcano Mount Vesuvius on 24 August 79 AD.

The city of Pompeii is absolutely huge and has so much to see, Villas, Churches, a Colosseam, ampitheatre, shops and houses. I was surprised at how it is mostly still intact and it gives you a real idea of what Roman life was like back then. There are many interresting things to see and a guided tour can be quite expensive so we just bought a tourbook from the vendors outside which proved invaluable and was only €8.00!

TIP: Bring lots of water and food for lunch as it is really hot (depending on the time you go) and you do a lot of walking. There is a restaurant in there which is very expensive and hard to find!
We could not find anywhere selling water (this was before we knew there was a restaurant inside the site) and we had to go out for lunch and then sneak back in! There are lots of nice places to have a pincic lunch.
