Night one at Lemonthyme Lodge
Hitting the road once more on our travels around Tasmania, we are off to see Cradle Mountain. Our drive today took us up the Murchison Highway, past the little mining town of Zeehan and the former mining town of Tullah then right onto Cradle Mountain Road. We drove past the entrance to Cradle Mountain, on our way to our accommodation for the next two nights. Lemonthyme Lodge is the largest log cabin in the Southern Hemisphere. At the end of a private road, you feel your soul sigh as you hop out of your car and take in the wondrous surroundings, with the scattering of smaller log cabins amongst the beautiful tall gum trees and giant ferns. Our cabin, the Pig and Whistle, named after one of the abandoned mines in the area, was a one-bedroom Tree Top Spa cabin.
The staff spoil you by setting up your fire each day while you are out exploring, and feeding you delicious meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner. After dinner, you have the chance to feed the nocturnal animals who come in for a feed every evening at the back of the main cabin.
There is a fully stocked bar for you to enjoy your favourite beverage while sitting in front of a roaring fire and chatting with other guests of the lodge.
I love this place, and highly recommend it to anyone who wants to spend some time in the Cradle Mountain area.
