Crazy fun in the Devil Jet

Monday morning and we were off again, this time for a bit of excitement on the Derwent River in a Devil Jet. What fun! I can’t remember how we heard about this exhilarating ride in a fast boat up the waters of the Derwent from New Norfolk and over rocks and rapids, but I’m so glad we did hear about it. We got all rugged up in yellow raincoats and life jackets and jumped into the boat and zoom, we were off. You couldn’t get the grin off my face for the rest of the day it was so much fun.

After our heart-starting ride, we headed back into New Norfolk for a quick look around before we ventured off to the Salmon Ponds at Plenty. Now Shane being a bloke loves fishing and thought the idea of going to some ponds where the fish nearly jump out of the water and into your hands very appealing.

Plenty, Salmon Ponds
I can take fish or leave them, unless they are on a plate all clean and yummy, ready for me to eat. Nevertheless, I had seen photos of the Salmon Ponds and really wanted to see their beauty. You have the option of purchasing a handful of pellets to feed the Salmon so you can watch them work themselves into a frenzy fighting over the food. After spending a bit of time teasing the fish with our pellets, we were back on the road again, this time heading in the direction of Strahan on the Wild West coast of Tassie.

The drive to Strahan takes you through some magnificent countryside and I would recommend trying to spend a night at Lake St Clare if you have the time, it would be wonderful to pull on your hiking boots and hit the trails of this stunning part of the world. We stopped for a short while but we had to make Queenstown by dark, (if you have a look at the photo of the road into Queenstown, you will see why).

Once again, we made very good time; we came to realise everything is Tassie is a lot closer than is seems, and the time to get to places shorter than you think.

Our welcoming little cottage was waiting for us to arrive, and put our feet up in front of the cosy fire and rest our weary souls before tomorrow’s big day on the Gordon River.

Ask away my lovely friend; :) it is a very pretty state. I just wish I could be here when you are, but I am hoping to be in Europe at that time. If I am still here though, we will catch up and I'll show you around. :)
