Stop 2 - Portsmouth
We stopped for lunch in Arundel, a cute little town with a castle perched above and a stream running between the cobbled street. We then headed to Portsmouth where Steph had arranged a 2-night stay with her brothers-girlfriends-sister, Claire, who has been living there for almost 5 years.
Portsmouth is a place that is rich in war history, as it is Britains naval base, and was therefore a big enemy target and the recipient of much bombing and destruction. It is also the city Steph's belated grandfather grew up in, so we devoted some time to checking out his old haunts and houses.
We also went to the D-Day museum and engrossed ourselved tapestry, documentary and factual displays of that final attack. Go ALLIES!!!!!
Claire and her partner took us out to the country for a hearty English pub meal in front of a fire. It was a great night, even though Steph insisted on discussing her many travelling phobias (bird-flu, terrorism, muggings etc!).
