Let me start by saying NEVER stay at the Hans Brinker hostel in Amsterdam. It ruined my first impressions of the city...that may sound a little harsh - but the place is an absolute filth pot, the fire alarm got set off at 3am in the morning, and the dorm we checked in to was inhabited by 10 pigs, I mean, boys, that had completely covered the floor and any 'spare' beds with their dirty clothes/underwear, rubbish and drugs.
It didnt help that it rained a lot here too, which wasn't too bad...as most of our activities were inside. We visited the Van Gough museum and saw some of his great works, and also the Anne Frank house - which was definately a moving experience; well worth the visit.
We also enjoyed a cruise around Amsterdams canals, and paid a visit to the infamous Red Light District.
One of the nights, we also did a Busabout pubcrawl, which was great fun with our Canadian and Kiwi mates, rocking the dance floor...and the dance pole!!!! Hee hee.
The highlight of my time in Amsterdam was definately the bike tour we did. We cruised around on these hotted-up cycles, learning all about the history and features of the city, and I soon found I was in support of all the powers that be had done there. We also zipped 10 K's out of town to a cheese and clog factory, and saw some authentic windmills along the way. Very cool.
