Jesus de la Merced

Guatemala city, followed by Antigua Guatemala and Xela, Quetzaltenango. are the main cities for the republic of guatemala. Catholics have the mayority of religious population in the country for over 70%, and guatemala has the number 2 spot on catholics traditions only followed by Spain.

In Latin America Guatemala is well knowed for its traditions, how they go back in centurys, how the spaniars brought to us, one of there greatest way to see religion. how our guatemalan artist bring to us religios images of Jesus Christ,. being knowed the first one to be done by a guatemala artist back in 1655, im talking about Jesus de la Merced, u can visit him in hes second temple located at Guatemala city  church La Merced, second temple, because hes original temple also, La Merced of Antigua Guatemala was knocked down by an earthquake in 1773.

when the 3rd largest city in latin america was completelly destroyed at that time knowed as Santiago de los Caballeros,  Kingdom of Guatemala. it was called kingdom because it was the main city for populations from the peninsula of Yucatan Mexico,  Chiapas, all of central america to Panama, remember Guatemala is the only country in central america, with a huge history, Santiago de los Caballeros was founded by 1543 at that time govern by spaniars decided to tranfers all of antigua guatemala people,  there goods, goverment buildings, and cultural heritage to the new city, knowed today as nueva guatemala de la asuncion, or guatemala city.

Our main blog is, guatemalan traditions being the most important, the catholic procesiones (procesions), they walk around slowly thru main streets of guatemala city and antigua, passing by principal buildings, in front of mayor catholic churchs, received by its catholic people on the streets with guatemala's very own sand dust carpets, also made of pine, with flowers and sometimes fruits.

It is very interesting to see how thousands of people gathered around this lovely activity, how tourist blend in, with guatemala, being march and april of every year the busiest months, of full flights coming in thru Guatemala city main International Airport "La Aurora", or tikal, Peten "mundo Maya" International Airport, over 700,000 tourist enter the country only to presence the best holy week of the world.
