A drink on the day bed

We didn't have the best weather while we were up there it remained nice and warm for the entire time we were away, although getting in and out of the water was a little challenging once you were in you were fine. On our last day I half expected it to be nice and sunny as I caught a glimpse of blue sky on the way to breakfast but the cloud rolled in, in no time and was low.

After checking-out and settling up we were told there was problems with the inbound flight arriving into the airstrip, the flight had apparently made several attempts to land but could not get any visual contact with Cooks Lookout, the peak of the island which was adjacent to the airstrip. They had decided to return to Cairns which meant we would have had to stay an extra night! As you can imagine we were all really distraught at the thought of having to stay another nite!!

However within 15mins the cloud lifted and they made contact with the pilot who decided to turn back for another attempt after making a refueling stop in Cooktown.

If it got any later than this one attempt we would have almost certainly missed our flight connection in Cairns but as luck would have it (or not!!) the flight came in and landed just before the next rain band came through. There were no problems taking-off in the rain and low cloud but only when landing in the resort, however this definitely gave us a first hand reason why our clients need to travel insurance!!

Overall, Lizard Island lived up to it's reputation and I look forward to recommending it.
