What a Great experience! I guess what I want to say most of all is thank you to Phish and Co., the state of Maine and all the wonderful folks between our I95 exit and the entrance to paradise. I could have never imagined such a fine welcome. I rolled through the towns around 8:00pm Friday and all along the way were locals out on the streets waving and honking. It was quite a special feeling. For me, it set the tone for the whole weekend. It turned out to be the one of the best weekends of my life. The music, scene and people were all wonderful.
My take on the Harry Hood exhibition is as follows... After seeing Pink Floyd on their last outing I became convinced that I had probably reached my visual pinnacle. That is, what in the hell could top lasers, surreal video, explosions, and a mirrored ball the size of a Cadillac (all on cue I might add!).
I was 10 feet from te stage in the fog and in the middle of the Glowtsicks ... that whole set is one of the best ever. The DWD>Gin>Upenn SIIIIICK! And then the 2001 and Hood were completely off the hook. I swear they were playing possesed that night. My favorite 1 set jam ever.
Seeing that Gin was a top-5 Phish moment for me. Then that beast of a 2001, followed by the first-ever glow stick war...
Anyone who tells you 8/17/97 II wasn't the best set ever wasn't there.
Once again, Thank you oh so much to Phish and Co., and the fine folks of Northern Maine.
