Flew to Frankfurt from Seattle to visit my sister and her family. They lived in Kitzingen, near Wurzburg. Spent Thanksgiving on US Army base. Rented a car and drove south through Bavaria to Prien am Chiemsee. Drove to Salzburg and took the back roads through the Wolfgangsee. Visited Rothenburg ob der Tauber (Christmas town). Then, drove west all the way to Paris!

Wurzburg

Beautiful Wurzburg is a college town. It straddles the twisting upper Main river in northern Bavaria. We enter the city near the Wurzburg Hauptbahnhof. Atop the hill overlooking the river is a beautiful palace, the Wurzburger Residenz and also the Festung Marienburg castle. The town is bustling with shoppers, all soaking in the late autumn sunshine. Saw Kiliansdom Wurzburg, a fabulous church at the head of Dom Strasse. The leaves on the trees are colored red, gold, and fading yellow. The air is crisp, and you can see your breath hanging in the air, but you feel invigorated. Tracie and Alan point out the sights as we twist and turn through town.
