My weeklong trip to the beautiful island of Puerto Rico!

El Yunque y las cascadas

The end of Big Tree Trail

We ventured to the rainforest of El Yunque Caribbean National Forest. It was "supposed" to be a 25 mile drive from San Juan but ended up taking a few hours because traffic was so bad on the 3. Anyways, it was worth the wait! This beautiful lush mountainous landscape is filled with hiking trails and waterfalls. We took the Bano de Oro trail to avoid the crowds and then ended up on the busiest trail, Big Tree Trail, that led us down to an amazing waterfall and swimming area. Definately bring your swimsuit and some decent shoes - I wore sandals that were not meant for hiking and I nearly slipped atleast 20 times! People were jumping off a small cliff into what looked like an even smaller body of water but everyone survived so I imagine its ok. I am deathly afraid of heights and I managed to stay far far away from the cliffs...
