In Victoria is the Royal British Columbia Museum which we have heard and read is supposed to be fantastic so today we went there. We wandered down about 11am ish and bought a ticket to the museum each and a ticket to the IMAX film - Fighter Pilot at 6pm tonight.
The museum was very good. An interactive exhibit called Fatal Attraction about animals and mating - was very interesting. There was a second floor on First Nation peoples, and a general history of Canada section. It was a good museum, although after four hours our brains couldn't take in any more information. Our favourite bit was a life size realistic looking Woolly Mammoth, complete with thunder and lightning!
Back to the hostel for a rest and some food and then headed back out to see the IMAX film. It was based on a training programme called Red Flag, in which fighter pilots from around the world take part in realistic training exercises. It certainly gave you a stomach churning sense of just how fast they fly. The take offs were amazing - they were flying vertically in seconds.
We called in at an Irish pub on the way back, which apart from the guiness was about as Irish as Walkabout. It was all imported beer - we had a pint each - this was reflected in the price when we got the bill - about three pounds 50 a pint!
